Report on the Implementation of Gender Equity Education in Correctional Institutions

The Report on the Implementation of Gender Equity Education in Correctional Institutions was formally adopted by the 1st National Human Rights Commission at its 48th meeting on December 26, 2023. The report puts forward four recommendations for promoting and implementing gender equality education at correctional institutions: 1) international standards and case studies should be referenced in the development of localized training programs; 2) the Correctional Institution Officers Training Center should re-examine and evaluate feasible ways to integrate gender mainstreaming education and training into relevant professional courses, and further strengthen the gender awareness of supervisors based on their respective responsibilities; 3) considering that the 2023 amendments to the Gender Equity Education Act now extend to juvenile correctional institutions, the relevant units should promptly establish guidance and monitoring mechanisms for gender mainstreaming education and training in these institutions; and 4) an emphasis should be placed on monitoring the participation in advanced gender equality training by staff members responsible for gender equality.
