Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment

The United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman, or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT) aims to prevent the occurrence of torture, cruelty, and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment in the world. According to the optional protocol of CAT, it is necessary to have an independent mechanism specifically stipulated in order to prevent torture from occurring at the national level so as to ensure that the provisions of this Convention are implemented by all agencies.
