The International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance

The International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance (ICPPED) was passed by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 61/177 in 2006 and officially entered into force in 2010. The so-called “enforced disappearance” in ICPPED refers to acts of deprivation of liberty such as arrest, detention, kidnapping, etc, carried out by state agents, individuals, or organizations authorized, supported, or allowed by the state, refusal of admitting the actual deprivation of liberty, concealing the whereabouts of the missing persons, and denying the missing persons any legal protection. An enforcement law for ICPPED has not yet been passed in Taiwan.
